The Day of Atonement is what can be considered as the original "National Day of Prayer" for the children of Yisrael. After being delivered from Egypt, The Most High laid out the Fall Feast days, in which the Day of Atonement was to be observed in the 7th month of Ethanim, (meaning to endure) 10 days from the Feast of Trumpets observance.
“Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, there shall be a solemn rest for you, a memorial of blowing of shofars, a holy convocation. You shall do no regular work. You shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.’” “However, on the tenth day of this seventh month is Yom Kippur. It shall be a holy convocation to you. You shall afflict yourselves and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. You shall do no kind of work in that same day, for it is Yom Kippur, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God. For whoever it is who shall not deny himself in that same day shall be cut off from his people. ' Leviticus 23:24-25,27-29
What is the Day of Atonement?
The root word of atonement “atone” means to make amends or reparations.

The Day of Atonement is a very special time of the year, because it is an appointment with The Most High for a two-way exchange to take place. You see, while we offer ourselves in fasting and praying to make amends with our Elohim, The Most High then in return is repairing or healing His people (reparations). With that said, what are you seeking for The Most High Yah to provide for you? Is it for a closer relationship with Him, to understand your purpose, to prosper, or healing? The great and awesome news is that in the Kingdom of The Most High and our King Yahshua, our Atonement was made complete with Him offering His Life at Passover to make amends with AbbaYah, for His People. Praise The Most High Yah for our Messiah Yahshua!
How to observe The Day of Atonement?
As I previously mentioned, the focus of Atonement, was to fast, pray, make amends, and become one with Yahuwah. Some of us because of the restraints of our work schedules, family life, etc. May not be able to fast for a full day, but at least offer some of your time to The Most High and observe it. If you can fast from sunset on the eve of Atonement till sunset the next day great. If not, maybe from dinner that evening, till noon the next day, or by just staying off social media for a day, not watching TV, or just eating crackers and juice to take communion with your family. The point is whatever time you sacrifice doing something the flesh normally desires, use that time to feed on the word of The Most High, spend it praying and developing a closer relationship with Him and as His Nation (Kingdom), communing with our Messiah, and preparing ourselves for reparation and restoration.
Shalom
